SPX Middle School Service Hours
Service hours are again one of your new responsibilities in middle school. Each students is expected to complete the required number of service hours for their grade.
6th Grade: 3 hours
7th Grade: 6 hours
8th Grade: *9 hours
*In addition to the 8th grade service requirement, Students will also participate in our annual Spring Class Service Project
The goal of service hours is for you to live your Catholic calling to serve those in need and to help familiarize yourselves with the many ways you can serve both our parish, our local community, and the world. One person’s service can changes somebody’s life forever. We never know exactly how our work helps others, but we know that by doing the little things and helping those in need we are making the world a better place.
It is require that at least one of your assigned hours be earned through participation in a St. Pius X school or parish event (i.e. service club event, campus clean-up, parish babysitting). These are referred to as “Parish Hours.” Additionally, it is also require that at least one of your assigned hours also be earned through participation in a service opportunity not related to a St. Pius X school or parish event (i.e. ringing a salvation army bell, helping with the food bank, donating clothes or food to a shelter). These are referred to as “Non-Parish Hours.”
These are only possible examples of service and many other options are available. Students will brainstorm possible service experiences early in the year to get a better idea of their options.
You have the majority of the school year to complete these hours. As you acquire service hours you will record them on your purple “Service Hour Record Sheet.” All service hours need to be completed by May 22nd, 2009. On this date students are required to hand-in their completed service hour record sheet.
